8 Niche Writing Gigs that Make Good Money

How much should you be charging for your articles? As a writer we all want to make the right money for our efforts as researching a topic and writing coherently is really a craft. For this reason most writers are starting to shy away from Fiverr because 1, $5 for quality writing is ridiculous and 2, some clients just demand too much for their $5.

Also, $5 an article is not what you went to university for! If you want to get paid an honest wage for your craft, it's better to be niche in what you do. Niche knowledge and skills always trump generic skills and demand a higher wage.

Here's 8 niche types of writing gigs that you can specialise in to get a better rate for your writing.

1. Press Kits

Performers such as actors/actresses and singers/musicians/bands on tour, start-ups looking for funding, sports teams looking for sponsors, and public speakers all need a press kit that introduces them to the media in their target market. Well written press kits can be the difference between booking the job or not. So a writer that excels in writing press kits can be much sought after.

Bonus points if you are someone who writes a second language perfectly. Translating press-kits to other languages is commonly needed for touring musicians and public speakers coming to town.

2. Instruction Manuals and Technical Writing

If you're from an engineering school or have a technical mind, this is a great niche for you. Most highly technical people enjoy the 'problem solving' part of their job and hate to do the documentation. If you're the link between the real world and the geeky world, then your skill is highly desired.

3. Programs for Sports Events

Programs for sports events are highly collectible items. Every sports team needs one and it is always better to get a good quality one if they want to boost the image of their sports team to potential future sponsors.

4. Ghostwriting

When English soccer player Wayne Rooney published his autobiography, much of the English public joking questioned whether he actually wrote it himself. Chances are he probably didn't have the time to write it himself. That was the job of his ghostwriter. Ghostwriting is one of the best paid writing gigs out there, depending on the client. If you're a strong, experienced writer who has no problem dealing with divas then this niche is for you. Finding ghostwriting jobs is difficult, but be sure to network as much as you possibly can.

5. Personal Bios

Similar to ghostwriting but at a smaller scale. There are many reasons why people might want their personal bio written by an expert. Especially those looking for senior management positions or existing CEOs who want to make themselves and their company look good.

6. Case Studies

Touring educators might not have time to create or update case studies for their talks.
They are also a powerful tool for sales people who are looking to show case studies to potential clients to impress them with what they've done in the past. Writing case studies requires a touch of marketing flair.

7. Business Plan Writing

A lot of entrepreneurs are 'big picture' people who don't have time or motivation to get into the nitty gritty of how their business is going to work. If you wish to help these people realise their ideas then it might be good for you. There may even by a chance of equity in their new business venture or a chance of continued employment once their funding comes through (giving you more motivation to do a better job of the business plan). You'll be sought after for business plan writing if you have a track record of writing successful business plans and are great at crafting persuasive business writing and organizing information.

8. Annual Reports

Most companies are required by law to report their finances once a year. In some countries, awards are given for the most beautiful annual reports in an effort to encourage annual reports. Some smaller companies may also publish their annual reports to show to prospective investors or for the purpose of listing on a stock market. If you do a great job of an annual report, you can be sure that the company will want you back the next year.

Is your username critical to your success on Fiverr?

I read a recent post on Fiverr's own blog that your username plays a massive part in whether or not your gig is found on Fiverr. It was explained that it is somehow included in the Fiverr search algorithm on their site.

However. I've not found this to be not exactly true (although admittedly there isn't much method to my quick test of this). For an experiment I searched for 'design facebook cover' and got the following first four results:

1. I will design a Facebook Cover for $5
By randallseang
6 votes
3 orders in queue

2. I will do a facebook cover for $5
By creativeinarts
57 votes
13 orders in queue

3. I will do any facebook cover for $5
By online_jobs
20 votes
5 orders in queue

4. I will design a facebook cover for $5
By crazyyouth
19 votes
0 orders in queue

These don't seem to adhere to any particular search result ranking other than the relevancy of the title of the gig, and perhaps the gig description and content. So it seems that this algorithm doesn't really work in this way? Then again, it can't harm you to have a decent name for your Fiverr account.

Making $500 a month on Fiverr - A case study

Ok, let's talk about a Fiverr. More specifically how to "sell traffic".

Fiverr is a place where people pay to get services for $5. The seller actually gets $4 of that (minus paypal fees) and can cash out the 4$ 2 weeks after a job is completed. $4 may not seem much but the biggest value I find with fiverr is that it's a good way to get new clients. They buy a couple gigs for $5 and if you do a good job some will start paying you directly and cutting out the middleman(fiverr). So even if Fiverr went away I am still in business. Or you can just stick to doing fiverr gigs.

You can sell whatever(legal) service you want for $5 but remember that you really don't want to be spending very much time on each gig. I try and keep it to 15 minutes of actual work per gig. But when you make a new one it will take a bit of time before you streamline it so don't be discouraged if it takes longer at first.

So here is a great method for making Fiverr cash:

Step 1: Earn traffic by having your computer autosurf websites
Step 2: Sell this traffic on Fiverr
Step 3: Profit

Seems simple enough but I will explain things that have taken me a long time to learn and I have not seen talked about anywhere.

Step 1: Earning traffic. Autosurf sites allow you to login and have you computer automatically surf other peoples sites. You get credits for sites surfed. You can use those credits to get traffic on your own sites(or your fiverr customers). There are hundreds of these sites but only a few good ones. It is usually not a 1:1 ratio, that way the autosurf site has extra credits leftover that they sell.

You can pretty much set it and forget it (though it's good to check on it once a day because sometimes it will get stuck.) You can run it while you sleep or run it on a spare machine or run it on a VM like I do. If you want to expand from there you just need more IP addresses. I used to run 4 virtual machines at a time each with their own IP and could pump out enough credits to get people thousands of views daily. If I got too many sales I would just buy a few credits and was still making a nice profit.

The best site out the is Hitleap. It counts credits by "minute" so you can send people to your site for 5 seconds up to 60. Depending on what you need.
Non Referral Link: http://hitleap.com

Step 2: Selling the traffic. After earning (or buying) a bunch of credits you need to decide how you are going to sell the traffic. Just selling tons of traffic is not really that popular in Fiverr, so it's all in how you package it. For example you could sell Youtube views. Put in the youtube link into Hitleap and send traffic to it. Or you could sell Soundcloud plays. Or Instagram views. Someone would rather have more Youtube views, or "Blog Visits" than just plain traffic. Find a way to sell it to them. It helps if whatever site you are sending traffic to has a public "counter" like youtube.

The easiest sell if for sites that reward you for having more views etc. Part of youtube rankings have to do with how fast they are getting views. So it can help them get more legitimate views. People mostly understand they are not "real" visits but they want to get on the "popular videos" list and things like that. Also people like having bragging rights "Dude my picture got 800 views!".

Keep in mind it's never a 1 to 1 ratio. Youtube for example likes to wait a bit before showing all of the views and they don't really count every single one. So test it before you make a fiverr gig.

Step 3: Profit. You have to wait a bit to get your fiverr money but you can get some customers to buy a better deal directly through paypal and you can get your money right away(I have a paypal debit card so that's nice). It's against Fiverr rules to do this technically but I just hit them up on Youtube or Soundcloud or whatever site and see if they are interested.

Give your creative juices a blend. Name someone's company.

Seller 'itscbiz' has a top rated gig named "I will give you 5 suggestions for a company name or domain name for $5"

So you think you have a lot of cool ideas for company names? People are you there willing to pay you cash for your creativity. Operating a gig like this will allow you to stretch your creative capability and earn some cash in your spare time while doing so.

How to make money on Fiverr by being humorous - My top 5 funniest Fiverr gigs.

Funny Kitten

The Funniest Fiverr Gigs

My English teacher always warned me to never try bringing humor to a story as it would amount to nothing. These guys however, have Grossed over $470 for their wacky antics:

5. Dinosaur Hamster Costumes

Dressing a hamster up as a dinosaur is pretty hilarious in my opinion. Not to mention cute.

For $5, arosecreates will send you one of her dinosaur costumes for your Syrian hamster.

(Really worth looking at the hamster in the dino suit)

4. Taking an unpleasantly cold shower

Oh the things people will do for $5!

In this case, cash strapped artist maxtundra will take a slightly unpleasant shower for $5.

3. Green Man Dancing (Need I say more?)

For $5, urban_destroyer will dress as a green man dancing to any song of your choice to get your message across.

Adding to the fun is your choice of three locations for the green man to dance, sing and make you or your potential clients laugh.

You've gotta check out the video for this gig.

2. Banana Suit

Now what could be possibly funnier than someone dancing around in a banana suit?

For $5, Fiverr seller bethan will stand in a banana costume in the middle of the street and say whatever you want! You might get a little dance too if you're lucky.

You NEED this gig if you want to get noticed!

1. Singing Showerman

Here we go with the shower thing again. The picture says it all:

Fiverr seller nitrohotfire will sing in the shower for $5. No nudity from the waist down though!

(ps. check out his ninja gig too)

Do you have a gig on Fiverr that makes serious cash whilst making people laugh? I'd love to hear about it in the comments.

How to make money on Fiverr by writing in the Sand

One interesting Fiverr gig I pulled out is a Fiverr seller who makes his Fiverr dollars by writing messages in the sand.

If you live near a beach, this is easy money for you. A total of $190 has been transacted so far for this Single gig alone.

Now brainstorm other gigs that you could do in the sand?
